Tascam DR-40X Four-Track Handheld Recorder
DR-40XP
Community verdict
The Tascam DR-40X is widely regarded as a versatile and budget-friendly recorder suitable for voice, music, and general-purpose audio capturing. Users regularly praise its easy-to-use menu, dual XLR inputs, safety track recording feature, and ability to function as an audio interface. However, several audio enthusiasts highlight that its preamps have a noticeable noise floor, making it less suitable for gain-hungry dynamic microphones or capturing quiet ambient sounds.

Best recorder in its price point. Great quality recording options, PRO quality. Menu is easy to learn after a use or two.
I have one, and I think it's fine for general use. It also doubles as an audio interface; IMO could replace the behringer for that use.
I own several, and like it b/c it is inexpensive, takes a beating, has XLR and safety track, protection rails for the internal mics...
I spent so much time and effort trying to figure out why my sound was so horrible and noisy and i then realised it was my DR40x!
