The canvas is thick and fairly stiff. As others have said, the zipper is great... The bag is rugged, functional, and (it must be said) very pretty.
I have used the medium for 22 years for international travel and cram a TON of stuff into it... Point being that the medium is a great size.
I loved the aesthetic of the med duffel but I couldn't get over how small the zippered access to the main compartment was.
For me, carrying those 3 bags, especially the Filson weight, through airports, in cabs, and hotels would be back breaking.
